Feliz Dia Jabonoso!

A lot of you have asked me how to color the melt & pour soaps naturally.
As a small business owner, you’re faced with all kinds of decisions from what brand of olive oil to use,essences, colors and even a nice logo graphic for your soaps and everything else for a good handmade soap.
But the biggest battle is how to price the soaps. In this post I will help you with some tips for you to do.
First of all, I work from my own home and live in USA. So therefore I will give you the cost price including taxes and shipping from all products that I use to make my soaps monthly.Base melt and pour soap:$10.00(for 2 pounds)Butter:$20.00(1 pound)Essence:$15.00(2 oz)Color: $30.00(1 pound)Now I will add all the red:$ 10.00
$ 20.00
$ 15.00
$ 30.00
--------=
$ 75.00Now I will divide the total by 12
Why by 12? Because that is what I spend monthly.75.00 divided by 12 is 6.25that would be the price with ingredients only per bar of soap in the process of melt and pour . $ 6.25If I add two essential oils or two butters would be a little more expensive. Many of my customers prefer a single butter and one essential oil to be more economical. Others prefer two butter and two esential oils as anti-acne soap and rose soap each have two essential oils and butters are the two best seller in my business.
So far, this is a very manageable until you try to pay. Your labor is expensive. How much time did you spend creating and designing your bar? I take 3 hours making 2 pounds of soap, so I have to charge for labor. If it takes me 3 hours doing 2 pounds(8 to 9 bars) depending on the mold and I can make 18 bars in an hour, I add the $6.25 with the total of bars I make in an hour. So that is $6.25 divided by 18 = .34 cents more for each bar of soap. But I surrounded 0.34 to $ 1 and that would be my cost of labor including the wrapping paper for each bar of soap.
That would be $ 6.25 + $ 1.00 = $ 7.25 This price is for each bar of soap 5oz. But when the soaps are samples only that weigh 2oz I give them to half the price of $ 7.25 which would be: $ 7.25 divided by 2 = $ 3.62 but sometimes I'm generous and give them at three dollars if they buy three or more because the shipping is more expensive than a bar of soap. Not worth selling one sample and then I have to pay more for shipping unless the client is willing to pay more for shipping than bar soap. It is better to provide a certain amount of products and weighing no more than 20 pounds for shipments outside the U.S because it's very expensive.
I hope this tutorial is useful to you to give a fair price for your soaps. Happy Soapy Day!
